| Osheaga Arts presents the « OSHEAGA Bloc Party » With the Skewville duo, local artists and DJs Saturday, June 9 / Lachine CanalFREE In 2012, for the first time in its history, OSHEAGA developed a cultural project in the spirit of New York City’s block parties, the community gatherings that were born in the 70’s and 80’s in districts such as Brooklyn, Queens and Harlem. In collaboration with the Brooklyn, NYC Skewville collective, the Osheaga Block Party will temporarily transform a Montreal neighborhood – Griffintown, by the Lachine Canal – into an imaginary Arts City. Since 2003, the Skewville twins have been invited by some of the most important galleries of the world to present their original masterpieces and exhibits, creating machines and techniques intended to impress, surprise and intrigue spectators, who often happen upon their work while walking through the streets. In keeping with OSHEAGA’s green initiative, the Skewville twins recycle and reuse debris and unwanted and forgotten objects to craft small contemporary art gems accessible to the masses. For the first time in Montreal, Skewville will take the Lachine Canal by fire with their artistic installations, where DJs and local musicians will be invited to provide a soundtrack for the colors of our city. True to the tradition of the old school block parties, the exact location will be disclosed only a few days prior to the event. Concession stands in food truck style will guide the discovery of our community’s various flavors, and local visual artists En Masse, Labrona & Cie, DHS, K6A and La Paria will participate in an exhibition custom-made for theindustrial landscape of the Lachine Canal. Inspired by the culture of urban artists of all kinds, this event seeks to be an homage to Montreal’s glorious summer season. QUALITÉ MOTEL TICKETS ON SALE ON THURSDAY, MAY 10th AT NOON! Tickets available at the Bell Centre Box Office No, we are not talking about a questionable motel chain where one has to pay for their rooms by the hour. Rather, Qualité Motel is the new 100% electronic parallel project conceived by the 5 members of Misteur Valaire. The minimalist ideal trades in the group’s heavy electro-acoustic equipment to instead seat them before an array of simple sound machines, in the style of a savory international buffet. On the menu: a mix of drum sets and synthesizers from the good old days that will remind you that your body can move in a way that is surprisingly free. www.myspace.com/qualitemotel PLASTER TICKETS ON SALE THURSDAY, MAY 10th AT NOON! Tickets available at the Corona Theatre’s box office This is not the first time we’ve heard from the duo consisting of keyboardist Alex McMahon and percussionist Jean-Philippe Goncalves. Their first album, “First Aid Kit” hit the shelves in 2005 and took home the Félix Award for best electronic or techno album. They have also collaborated with Lauryn Hill when she came through Montreal in 2005. The group is launching a new album on May 15.
