CISCO OTTAWA BLUESFEST 2010 – DAY 12

| July 27, 2010 | Comments (0)

Day 12 of Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest filled the festival grounds with cowboy boots and jean-shorts as unofficial ‘country night’ descended on Lebreton Flats.

Headliner Keith Urban drew the main crowd, but Kevin Costner, yes ‘Dances with Wolves’ himself, did his part in packing the festival on the last Saturday of Bluesfest.

Performing with his supporting band Modern West, Costner sings and strums and delivers a solid country rock performance. No doubt that Kevin’s celebrity helps this band book a bit higher than one with a similar but with less significant line-up might, it was hard to find a disappointed fan in the crowd as the female heavy fans rocked and even played along with Kevin’s sing-along segment.

Brooklyn based The Hold Steady brought their classic rock, guitar heavy sound to the Subway Stage. Perhaps the hidden gem of the Day 12 line-up but unfortunately overshadowed by Urban on the main stage, The Hold Steady delivered a solid, animated set to larger than expected crowd, many of whom were undoubtedly familiar with the group and their music, but perhaps just as many curious and assuredly converted were fans in attendance as well.
